 What's New

US Lacks Staff to support Networks - posted 6/30/10

Cyber Alert (posted 6/24/10)
Several government and private users have received phishing e-mails from spoofed "dhs.gov" e-mail accounts. The spoofed source e-mail addresses include fouo@dhs.gov, ctd@dhs.gov, and oip@dhs.gov. Common phishing techniques often include using subject lines that may be of interest to the receiver. These e-mails have subject lines which include false statements concerning DHS raising the alert level and terrorist attack methods in airport terminals.

DHS has not made any changes to the current alert status, nor do we know of any imminent terrorist threats.

It is currently unknown if these e-mails contain any malicious software, but DHS recommends not opening any of the unsolicited emails or attachments related to the above email addresses and delete them immediately.

What Needs Attention

Attention AEA Permittees (posted 10/21/09)
AEA members are being asked to
review the following and to publicize the information in your authority’s public newsletter, website and possibly other public outreach methods.

Many localities in New Jersey are teaming up with local law enforcement to provide a day for the public to turn in unused prescription medicines for proper disposal.  Trace amounts of pharmaceutical waste have been found in waterbodies and this occurs in part because people unknowingly are not properly disposing pharmaceuticals correctly by flushing unused medicines down the toilet.  Sewage treatment plants are not designed to remove 100% such chemicals and trace amounts are left behind.

On November 14th, New Jersey is launching Operation Medicine Cabinet, to let the public come to designated areas to properly dispose of unused prescription drugs.  Please visit this link: http://www.operationmedicinecabinetnj.com/ for information about the program, local participating collection sites, and for operation times.  The collection sites are listed by county. This is an opportunity for the community to help preserve the environment, maintain healthy aquatic life and keep the public health at large safe.
